About
I’m starting a small COMSOL Multiphysics project test to model a mass balance equation with a fractional time derivative, similar to the approach in “An Implementation Solution for Fractional Partial Differential Equations” by Bertrand et al. (Mathematical Problems in Engineering, 2013). The paper is available here: https://doi.org/10.1155/2013/795651. The equation I want to model is: ∂ᵅC/∂tᵅ = D∇²C – kC where C is concentration, D the diffusion coefficient, k the reaction rate constant, and α (between 0 and 1) the fractional order. My goal is to first reproduce the model presented in the paper, and then explore alternative ways to approach the same problem. I'd appreciate help with: Implementing the fractional time derivative in COMSOL or using MATLAB LiveLink Writing the equation correctly in the Transport of Diluted Species or PDE interface Setting proper initial and boundary conditions Verifying that the mass balance and results are physically sound This is an academic learning project, not commercial work. I’d really appreciate any guidance to ensure the fractional PDE is implemented correctly. Please let me know if you're able to provide this type of support Best regards, Mariam
