Job Advert: Specialist SEND Tutor Required

Position: One-to-One SEND Tutor Location: In-school support in Bromsgrove,

Hours: 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Term time only) Start Date: ASAP

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled SEND Tutor to provide tailored, one-to-one support for a 9-year-old male student currently in Year 4. This role is based entirely within his school in Bromsgrove.

The primary focus of this position is to deliver targeted support in the core subjects of Maths, Reading, and Writing. You will be responsible for creating a positive and enabling learning environment that addresses the student's specific educational and emotional needs, helping him to build confidence and develop his skills.

About the Student

The student you will be supporting has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) with a primary need of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a secondary need of Moderate Learning Difficulty.

He has many strengths; he enjoys listening to stories and can comprehend what is read to him, is progressing well with his phonics and reading, and can engage with adapted Maths work, especially when practical and concrete resources are used. He builds strong relationships with familiar adults he trusts.

The student requires significant support with his listening and attention skills and can find adult-directed written tasks challenging. He communicates his feelings through his behaviour and can find busy or noisy environments overwhelming. A successful relationship will be built on trust, consistency, and an understanding that behaviour is a form of communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and highly differentiated 1:1 tuition in Maths, Reading, and Writing.
  • Establish a structured, predictable, and calm learning environment to reduce anxiety and support focus.
  • Build a trusting relationship, acting as an "attuned adult" who can co-regulate emotions and mediate his learning needs.
  • Incorporate the student's personal interests to motivate him and make learning meaningful.
  • Utilise visual supports, such as visual timetables and timers, to prepare the student for transitions and manage expectations.
  • Support the student's sensory needs by providing regular, purposeful movement and sensory breaks.
  • Liaise daily with the student's home and school to ensure a consistent approach.

Essential Candidate Requirements

  • Must have significant experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEND), specifically Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex communication needs.
  • Must be able to travel to the Bromsgrove area.
  • Must be available to work 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Monday to Friday, at a school in Bromsgrove.
  • A comprehensive understanding of neurodiversity and the ability to apply this knowledge in your teaching practice.
  • A patient, calm, and empathetic approach, with the ability to build rapport and trust with a young person.
  • Skilled in using creative, practical, and varied teaching methods to support engagement.

Please note that the following information is not from the sources. The pay rate for this role is £20 - £25 per hour, depending on experience, and it is highly desirable that the successful candidate has an enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.
