- Are you a Geologist looking to work on projects that can change the world, projects that are always more complex and innovative than the last?
- If so, we are looking for a Trainee / Assistant Engineering Geologist to join the Ground Investigation team within Rail, Structures & Ground Engineering to work in Leeds or Swindon. You will be joining a team of like-minded experts that have a passion for innovation and delivering cutting edge solutions.

- About Our Team: Our team specialises in Ground Investigation and Structural Investigation works throughout the UK in a range of environments for an array of Clients.
- We’re looking for organised, motivated, resourceful individuals who have a flexible can-do attitude to strengthen the Ground Investigation team and wider AECOM business.
Here’s what you’ll do
Provide Expertise
As an Engineering Geologist, you will be trained in our established working practices and the primary expectations for this role are as follows
- Provide support to more senior team members in the delivery of Ground Investigation projects;
- Site supervision of AECOM Ground Investigation projects, including site safety management, technical supervision of AECOM/subcontractor site teams and delivery of on-site briefings
- Work alongside internal drilling and technician staff in undertaking a wide range of fieldwork activities including trial pitting, borehole drilling, structural/pavement coring, in-situ testing, soil/water sampling and groundwater/ground gas monitoring;
- Logging of rocks and soils in accordance with BS5930;
- Assist in the preparation of reports and factual deliverables.
- A significant element of the works will be associated with UK infrastructure projects and will require frequent travel throughout the UK with regular periods away from home, often working nights shifts both during the week and at weekends in all weathers.

Here’s what we’re looking for
- BSc in Geology or other relevant subject area;
- Full UK Driving license;
- Possess good communication skills, a desire to learn, take responsibility for quality of your work and be able to work effectively as part of a team;
- Keen interest in geological processes and fieldwork in general;
- Experience in using MS Office software.
- Experience of undertaking fieldwork;
- Knowledge of BS5930 and its application in soil/rock logging;
- Experience of geotechnical log production software (e.g. OpenGround, gINT, Holebase)
- PTS, CSCS or other H&S qualifications;
