We are looking to appoint 2 highly enthusiastic domestic assistants to join our team at Hexham General Hospital, working in our new Operating Department.

We have 2 posts available, 1 full time 37.5 hrs per week and 1 post 25 hrs per week. Please specify on your application which post you are interested in.

The working hours are between 6am and 8pm, with various shift patterns.
• It is essential that you have effective communication skills both written and verbal.
• Previous domestic experience is essential.
• Experience within the healthcare setting is desirable.

• To ensure the operating theatres and surrounding areas are clean using specialised equipment (i.e. scrubber, pick up, buffer) and renewing disposables where necessary.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
• To clean operating theatres and the surrounding department. To act as a porter to take the patient to and from the operating theatres as necessary.
• Cleaning of floor areas as scheduled by means of vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
• Undertake “deep cleans” in areas where infection is present.
• Cleaning of the operating theatres including canopies.
• Removal of rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
• Cleaning of sanitary areas, toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
• Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
• Cleaning of internal glass.
• Taking down and putting up of curtains.
• Scheduled cleaning of chairs.
• To wash walls (shoulder height) fitting and windows where required.
• Use all equipment and materials in a correct and safe manner.
• Report all faults queries or problems to the Department Manager.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all work areas.
• Carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
• Participate in training programmes relevant to efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, the requirements of the health and safety at Work regulations and other courses as deemed necessary for the efficient working of the department.
• Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
