• Role Overview
• We are recruiting a Telesales / Counter Sales adviser to join our Peterborough branch. This is a customer-facing, sales-focused role responsible for handling incoming and outbound calls, processing counter sales, providing product advice, and supporting the branch team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve sales targets.
• Working hours
• Full time, permanent position. Typical hours will be Monday to Friday with 1 in 2 Saturday mornings 08.00 - 12.00. Exact hours to be discussed at interview.

• Main Responsibilities
• Handle incoming customer enquiries by telephone and at the branch counter, providing professional, helpful and timely responses.
• Make outbound calls to follow up leads, process orders, obtain delivery information and drive repeat business.
• Process counter sales accurately, including taking payments, preparing goods for collection and maintaining customer records.
• Provide product information and advice across the company’s range, supporting customers to select appropriate materials and accessories.
• Work closely with yard and delivery colleagues to coordinate customer collections and deliveries, ensuring accurate paperwork and timely service.
• Maintain and update customer accounts and sales orders using company systems and handheld devices where applicable.
• Achieve individual and branch sales targets by identifying opportunities to up-sell and cross-sell products and services.
• Ensure the counter and branch area is well presented, stocked and compliant with health and safety requirements.
• Report customer feedback, incidents or complaints in line with company procedures and work to resolve issues promptly.
• Support branch colleagues with ad-hoc tasks during quieter periods to ensure smooth branch operation.
• Qualifications and Skills
• Previous telesales, counter sales or retail/customer service experience, preferably within builders’ merchants, timber, landscaping or related sectors.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a customer-focused approach.
• Good numeracy and IT literacy, comfortable using telephone systems, stock systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure, prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
• Organised, reliable and able to work as part of a team while using initiative when required.
• Full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
• Basic product knowledge or willingness to learn about timber, fencing and building materials.
