Closing Date 2026-02-27 Job Title: Storm Overflow Technician Location: Kent Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 37 hours per week (with overtime opportunities) Salary: Up to £35,000, plus overtime and comprehensive benefits About the role Storm overflows are a major concern for our customers and communities, and we are committed to leading the industry in reducing their impact. Our Clean Rivers & Seas Task Force is delivering a pioneering £1.5bn programme over the next five years to reduce spills, minimise reliance on storm overflows, and enhance the natural environment. As a Storm Overflow Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining, monitoring, and improving storm overflow systems. You will work at the frontline of environmental improvement, helping us deliver sustainable and innovative interventions across the region. What you will be responsible for: Conducting field investigations within allocated catchments to understand the root causes of CSO activation Reviewing CCTV footage and contractor collected data to identify issues and determine practical solutions Working closely with civils separation contractors to develop efficient, cost-effective separation approaches Attending local customer drop in events to engage with the public and provide project updates Identifying issues early and implementing effective solutions to ensure infrastructure resilience during adverse weather Supporting the wider Clean Rivers & Seas Task Force in delivering environmental improvements across the region Additional requirements specific to the role Participation in incident support rotas as required (details discussed at interview) Hybrid working across sites, catchments, and home Comfortable engaging with customers and stakeholders at community events What you’ll bring to the role: Essential Proactive, independent working style with strong initiative A curious mindset and positive, can-do attitude Strong practical problem-solving skills Ability to work collaboratively with contractors and internal teams Excellent organisation and attention to detail, particularly when reviewing footage and survey data Valid UK driving licence Desirable Practical experience in a hands on or field-based role Experience engaging with members of the public Familiarity with CCTV review or survey data analysis Progression opportunities You will join a growing, high-profile programme with clear opportunities for career development, training, and progression within the Clean Rivers & Seas Task Force and the wider Southern Water organisation.
