We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Consultant to perform database performance tuning for our on-premises SQL environment. The immediate milestone is focused purely on diagnostics, optimization, and measurable query and database performance improvements. Scope of Work (Milestone: Performance Tuning) • Collect and analyze diagnostics (CPU, IO, query response times, blocking, deadlocks) to establish current performance baselines. • Review SQL Server configuration, instance settings, and workload distribution. • Optimize queries, indexing strategies, and partitioning approaches. • Recommend archival and scaling adjustments if needed. • Provide before/after performance benchmarks (latency, throughput, blocking reduction). Deliverables • Performance diagnostics report with identified bottlenecks. • Documented optimization steps (queries, indexes, configurations) and fixes. • Before/after benchmark comparison showing measurable improvements. • Recommendations for ongoing performance management. What We Expect • Proven track record in SQL Server optimization and tuning. • Strong expertise in troubleshooting query performance, indexing, and configuration. • Ability to deliver benchmark-driven results and clear documentation. • Good communication skills for explaining findings and recommendations. If successful, we plan to extend the engagement into governance, monitoring, and modernization milestones.
