MAIN PURPOSE

To work as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy input within the BIRT neurobehavioral model to People We Support with acquired brain injury (ABI). To liaise with internal and external professionals, family members and People We Support



MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical / Professional Practice

• To work within a specialist clinical area as an autonomous professional with support and supervision (which may be remote) from a more senior SaLT for more complex cases. To accept professional accountability and responsibility.



• To apply the neurobehavioral approach to brain injury, demonstrating knowledge of current research findings, and best practice in the field.



• With supervision as required, to manage a caseload of People We Support with complex mental/physical health needs and/or challenging behaviour.



• To use evidence-based practice, service user centred principles and clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate intervention.



• With supervision as required, undertake comprehensive assessments, considering environment, context and future plans, of People We Support in order to formulate appropriate:

rehabilitation goals
care plans
communication and dysphagia therapy programmes
referrals
communication partner training



ABOUT YOU:



Degree in Speech & Language Therapy
Registered with the HCPC
Dysphagia competencies.
Knowledge of speech and language therapy outcome measures
At least one years’ experience in management of dysphagia
Minimum of 2 years post registration experience including inpatient or community rehabilitation or 4+ years post registration experience in an alternative clinical setting.
