Midlothian Council invites application for the post of Specialist Roads officer (Network Coordination). The post holder will be responsible for the control, and monitoring of operations within or affecting the public road and transport network. To maintain the quality and standards required in the maintenance of the roads and related infrastructure in accordance with the necessary legislative framework and relevant codes of practice. To provide reports on public liability claims and take a preventative approach to minimising claim levels going forward.

You must have a relevant HND level qualification or equivalent experience in roads construction and maintenance, an ability to establish and maintain good relationships with the public, contractors and Public Utilities, Knowledge of Civil Engineering, Specifications and Legislation associated with Roads and Transportation and Familiarity with the SRWR system for monitoring activity within the road network and related infrastructure.

You must have Effective verbal and written communication skills to provide responses to customer enquiries, IT skills with a working knowledge of Excel, Word and the ability to manage a diverse workload and meet deadlines.

KNOWLEDGE:

Relevant SCQF Level 8 / HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline and/or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through previous experience.

IT literate and experienced in using Microsoft software packages and able to rapidly adapt to service specific software applications and make or lead suggestions for improvements.

A full current UK driving licence.

Operational knowledge in their area of responsibility of operations and legislation and Council policy is essential to deliver services and to make balanced judgements about operational priorities in tight timescales.

Customer focused with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £39,128.74 per annum.
