- Job Description
- The role is to be a key member of a small but high impact team that demystifies metals markets and sharpens the company’s strategic edge. We analyse the markets where Valterra Platinum operates, specifically platinum group metals (PGMs) but also some base metals and chrome. Your insights will help connect commodities with customers, guide strategic decisions, and fuel sustainable growth. If you’re curious, analytical, and thrive on variety, this is your chance to make a difference.
- You will need exceptional curiosity to ask the right questions; strong communication and interpersonal skills to share insights clearly; and confidence with numbers to measure what matters. Creativity and desire to improve how we work and what we deliver are essential. This is a hands-on and collaborative position, with close ties to our commercial. Investor relations and market development teams. You will help find, build and maintain relationships with customer and other stakeholders.
- Safety: Create a safety culture through productive and authorized operational systems/processes that allow all employees (including contracting partners) to provide their outputs in a risk-controlled environment. Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Performance and Delivery
- Commercial value generation
- Assist with the delivery of market intelligence through the process that includes gathering, collating, filtering, analysing, interpreting market data and intelligence specific to the PGM and base metals markets.
- Capture and communicate collective knowledge gathered from the Sales and Marketing teams as well as other internal and external sources.
- Build an understanding of the commercial space in the PGM sector to allow the identification of commercial opportunities.
- Conduct monthly & quarterly market analysis used as input into the quarterly market forecasts.
- Build out of price and other forecasting models to identify arbitrage opportunities.
- Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key interface with external information & market research providers to uncover pricing intelligence used to advise the Metals Marketing and Risk & Performance management teams around market reference pricing parameters, term contract negotiations and arbitrage identification.
- Identify key internal and external stakeholders and support regular targeted communication with these groups.
- Specialist Support
- Provide back up to the Manager, Market Intelligence in the delivery of market presentations and all other communications to the Marketing, Finance, Leadership and other internal stakeholders.
- Support the Manager, Market Intelligence in the origination and publication of new research on the platinum group metals through media scanning, ideas generation, writing and editing.
- Market Development
- Market scanning to determine areas of potential interest for market development or potential collaboration partners.
- Developing and delivering messaging on fuel cells and hydrogen.
- Monitoring and measuring the success of market development activities.
- Provide any other ad hoc support to market development efforts where required

- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce,
- Business, Economics or similar disciplines.
Experience
- 4-7 years working experience
Technical knowledge (experience) required for role
- Understanding and experience of Valterra Platinum suite of products, commodity industry, markets, industry landscape and their drivers.
- A feel for the economic, commercial and political issues affecting the commodities market.
- Ability to marry macro-economic context with micro market analysis to identify the most important drivers of price over short and medium term horizons
- Skill to translate complex market data into succinct reports and presentations to communicate clear messages
- Well-developed commercial and business acumen – understanding of sales and marketing fundamentals
- Analytical mind set – able to disaggregate problems and make quantitative estimates of value creation for initiatives
- Advanced research skills with an inquisitive and broad scanning approach – able to ask insightful and probing questions to get to the bottom of a situation or problem; doesn’t stop at the first answer
- Developed modelling capabilities and analytical capabilities
- Excellent compelling report writing and presentation and other communication skills tailored to the specific needs and requirements of the various audiences
- Strong understanding of risk management principles.
- Knowledge of commodity value chains.
- Creative mindset to optimize existing processes and deliver additional value-add solutions
- Sound knowledge of financial management.
