About the Role We are looking for a Senior Unreal Backend Developer who can architect and implement a complete 3D model ingestion and data pipeline for a large-scale Unreal Engine application. This role requires an expert-level understanding of 3D workflows, asset processing, metadata management, and dynamic integration between Unreal Engine and Firebase-based backend systems. You will be responsible for building a system that can import complex 3D models, clean and optimize them, extract structured metadata, manage file versions, and synchronize everything to Firebase, while ensuring the Unreal Engine runtime communicates seamlessly with the cloud in a fully data-driven architecture. Key Responsibilities 3D Model Ingestion Pipeline • Build a robust ingestion workflow for importing 3D models from multiple formats (FBX, Datasmith, CAD/BIM formats, etc.). • Automate model cleaning, hierarchy restructuring, mesh optimization, and collider generation. • Implement Dataprep or custom processing rules for consistent pipeline behavior. • Extract and structure metadata (materials, hierarchy, naming, component types, geolocation data). • Manage multiple ingestion modes: • Online (runtime imports inside Unreal) • Offline (pre-processing and background cleanup) Processing, Optimization & Data Transformation • Implement geometry simplification, LOD generation, and performance-oriented processing. • Standardize naming conventions, categories, and tags for all imported models. • Create reusable tools to validate and transform raw 3D assets into UE-optimized structures. • Version models automatically so every import is tracked, recoverable, and auditable. Firebase Integration • Store all processed assets in Firebase Storage (model files, thumbnails, dataprep exports). • Store structured metadata, version info, ingestion results, and asset descriptors in Firestore. • Build logic for automatic versioning, rollback, and incremental updates. • Implement Cloud Functions to automate data validation, transformation, and ingestion workflows. Unreal Engine Cloud Integration • Develop Unreal systems (Blueprint/C++) that dynamically: • Fetch ingestion metadata • Load the correct model version • Display state/structure/tags in the UI • Update presentation and design tools based on asset metadata • Ensure the entire Unreal workflow becomes data-driven rather than hard-coded. • Maintain stable communication between Unreal and Firebase (auth, fetch, write-back, sync). Cross-Team Collaboration • Work directly with technical directors, designers, and UE developers to define ingestion rules. • Define data contracts and runtime integration points. • Ensure the ingestion system fits into a broader Unreal architecture that includes visualization, presentation, and design tools. Required: Must have previously built a similar ingestion and data integration system.
