This is an autonomous role integrated within and as part of the clinical trials unit team offering the opportunity to lead research professionals and ensuring clinical trials integration within the BHOC.

To act as a senior member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing expert knowledge for radiotherapy trials. To supervise and co-ordinate radiographers/research nurses within CTU allocated to radiotherapy trials; ensuring flexible utilisation of the research skill mix to enable maximum patient recruitment. To manage a portfolio of radiotherapy based clinical research trials. To liaise closely with the trials team; the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and study organisers to ensure effective communication, high quality care and adherence to the study protocols. Maintaining effective communication and safe working practice within a complex regulatory framework

To co-ordinate specific trials undertaken by clinicians and to collect data for those studies, providing complex information in an easily understood manner to assist in the informed consent process. Involvement in the informed consent process is an important aspect of the role as is the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of data derived from the research studies.

Professional Leadership and Management

Provide radiotherapy expertise within CTU, managing the research team and radiotherapy trial portfolio. Support trial setup and delivery in line with ICH-GCP and governance standards. Coordinate patient arrangements and ensure accurate communication across teams. Lead and motivate staff, support training, and contribute to strategic planning and resource management. Represent the unit in meetings and ensure effective dissemination of radiotherapy-related information.

Clinical Practice

Support informed consent and assess patients throughout trial participation, ensuring safety and accurate documentation. Act as a resource for patients and staff, promoting dignity and patient-centred care. Attend MDTs and clinics to ensure continuity. Use clinical systems effectively and perform venepuncture, sample handling, and trial-related procedures. Ensure evidence-based practice and compliance with regulatory standards.

Education & Development

Maintain professional development, contribute to audits and teaching, and support knowledge sharing across the Trust.

Complete mandatory training and work flexibly across UHBW & BHOC as required.
