Who you are:
We are looking for Senior Software Developers who excel at solving complex problems with clean, scalable code. You’re passionate about transforming massive data streams into actionable insights and thrive when working across the stack—from databases to front-end interfaces. You understand the performance trade-offs of design decisions and bring a deep knowledge of multithreading, UI/UX best practices, and scalable architectures. As a senior team member, you're not only a strong individual contributor but also a mentor and technical leader who helps guide the broader team toward engineering excellence.
What you'll do:
Aa Senior Software Developer at Geotab, you’ll be instrumental in building and scaling our advanced telematics platform. You’ll work with cutting-edge technologies to create responsive, web-based applications and services that process real-time data from millions of connected devices.
How you'll make an impact
- Listen and contribute to design discussions and make detailed notes and documenting requirements and technical design.
- Provide guidance to more junior team members, sharing knowledge across the teams.
- Write scalable, high quality and secure software in a variety of programming languages and environments, such as C#, Java, JavaScript, SQL.
- Perform quality assurance by doing peer review, ensuring coding standards are followed, looking for logic errors and other bugs.
- Analyze call stacks, trace files, performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs.
- Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and proofs of concept.
- Provide assistance to our support staff and resellers from a technical perspective. This may be in the form of on-call or ad-hoc questions relating to how certain features work or verifying the behaviour by reviewing code.
- Research new language features, frameworks and other relevant technologies and offer recommendations to Leads and senior leaders.
- Assist in defining best practices to be used in the team.
- Provide design documents and documentation to ensure efficient maintenance and code reuse.
- Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.
What you'll bring to the role
- Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in full-stack software development.
- Proficient in C# or Java, with strong knowledge of object-oriented design, unit testing, optimization, and multithreaded programming.
- Some experience with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
- Experience with additional languages and technologies is a plus, including Python, TypeScript, ES6, .NET Core, Google Compute Engine, and Google BigQuery.
- Working knowledge of Cloud computing experience with GCP, AWS and/or Azure.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Able to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions.
- A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
- Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
