Senior Social Worker, Kinship Care Team
Location: Birmingham Children's Trust
Pay: £33.30 per hour
Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Social Worker to join its Kinship Care Team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that children who cannot be cared for by their birth parents are supported within their wider family and friend networks. This is a critical position that requires a compassionate professional with a robust understanding of child welfare and family support, along with the ability to manage complex cases and mentor junior colleagues. The post holder will be a key figure in assessing and supporting kinship carers, promoting positive outcomes for children and families.
Summary of the Role:
To manage a complex caseload involving kinship care arrangements, including Connected Persons and Special Guardianship Orders.
To conduct high-quality assessments and formulate comprehensive care plans for children and their kinship carers, ensuring their safety and well-being.
To provide expert guidance and supervision to other social workers within the team, fostering a culture of best practice and continuous professional development.
To work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, including legal professionals and other local authorities, to achieve permanence for children.
To prepare and present reports for fostering panels and court proceedings, demonstrating excellent analytical and written communication skills.
To contribute to the development of the Kinship Care service, helping to shape and improve support for children and their families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leading on viability assessments and comprehensive evaluations for connected carers.
Conducting statutory visits and regular reviews of kinship placements to ensure compliance with fostering regulations and to monitor the child's welfare.
Providing ongoing support, supervision, and training for approved kinship carers.
Delivering effective interventions and direct work with children to help them understand their life journey and maintain positive family relationships.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records and producing high-quality court reports within strict timescales.
Working with families post-order to provide ongoing support and to facilitate positive transitions.
Mentoring and co-working with less experienced staff, providing case oversight and professional advice.
