Senior Social Worker, Children with Disabilities Team
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Social Worker to join the Children with Disabilities Team at Birmingham Children's Trust. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people with disabilities, working within a supportive and collaborative environment rated 'Good' by Ofsted.
This is a chance to make a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children and their families by providing a high-quality, child-centred social work service. The role requires a dedicated and compassionate professional with experience in children's social care, a strong understanding of relevant legislation, and the ability to manage a complex caseload effectively.
Summary of the Job
To lead on complex casework and provide expert guidance to less experienced social workers within the Children with Disabilities Team.
To conduct thorough and analytical assessments, and develop comprehensive, multi-agency care plans for children and their families.
To work closely with a range of professionals, including those in health, education, and the police, to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to support.
To contribute to the continuous improvement of the service, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice guidelines.
To represent the Trust in court proceedings and other key meetings, providing high-quality, evidence-based reports.
Duties & Responsibilities
Manage a complex caseload of children and young people with disabilities.
Complete statutory assessments, including Child and Family Assessments, and develop Child in Need and Child Protection plans.
Provide advice, support, and professional supervision to social workers and students.
Conduct home visits and direct work with families to provide practical and emotional support.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on all cases using management information systems.
Actively participate in team meetings, service reviews, and multi-agency forums.
Identify and address safeguarding issues, ensuring the well-being and safety of the child is paramount.
