- About our User Research Team: We are currently a team of more than 20 individual contributors, who are embedded into collectives i.e Core Banking, Business Banking etc, working cross functionally with Product Design, Product Management and Engineering teams. - About the role..
- As our Senior Market Research Manager, you’ll play a crucial role in building and developing a team of Market Researchers embedded across product verticals or growth teams. You’ll also be hands on in delivering insights on customer needs and market opportunities that help shape our product and growth strategies by building a deep understanding. You’ll champion the use of robust market insights and scale the impact of market research across the organisation to help us achieve our company mission of making money work for everyone.
- What you’ll be working on..
- Doing market research
- Using primary qualitative and quantitative market research methods, including analysing competitors, identifying macro market trends, assessing pricing, testing value propositions and messaging, and unpacking brand perceptions.
- Using quantitative research methods including conjoint analysis, max-diffs, and clustering/segmentation techniques to prioritise high-value jobs and needs.
- Impacting strategy
- Partner with company leadership to shape our product and growth strategies, ensuring teams are solving the right customer problems in the right ways based on market understanding.
- Driving a deeper understanding of Monzo's increasingly diverse customer base, making sure products resonate across different needs and behaviours.
- Help us make money work for people outside the UK by understanding and comparing competitors in different markets, shaping value propositions, and tailoring brand voice for new international markets.
- Partnering with leadership to make sure everyone in your research team is working on the highest impact areas, and individuals have autonomy to make those decisions where possible.
- Deepening our understanding of customer experience and NPS, including conducting competitive positioning analysis, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and mapping customer journeys to build truly magical experiences.
- Increasing visibility of key market research insights and making sure action is taken as a result across the organisation.
- Leading people
- Scoping and building the future of the Market Research discipline at Monzo
- Managing our first team of Market Researchers, supporting 1-3 direct reports with clear goals and regular feedback.
- Working with research and marketing to define, set up and scale an effective suite of systems, processes and tools for market, consumer, and brand insights.
- Continually raising the standard of market research
- Developing sustainable ways of nurturing all talent within the Market Research team and contributing to the wider Research team
- Hiring brilliant, diverse people and ensuring they are onboarded to be quickly effective
- You should apply if..
- You have extensive market research expertise
- You’ve used market research methods, including branding, advertising, and growth marketing research in a high growth product or technology organisation.
- You have experience making use of marketing insights, quantitative user research, product data, and a range of other insights for better decision making.
- You are a hands-on expert in advanced quantitative analysis techniques, such as conjoint analysis, max-diff scaling, clustering and segmentation.
- Your approach is a blend of rigorous, data-scientist-level quantitative methods with a solid understanding of user research principles.
- You're comfortable self-serving on market research tools to pull, manipulate, analyse and visualise primary data.
- You’ve enabled product and growth strategy in a high growth tech org
- You’ve had experience building or informing go-to-market strategies
- You're passionate about understanding the market and finding new opportunities to innovate
- You’ve played a significant role driving sustainable growth through strategic thinking
- You’re a strong communicator and facilitator and you’re passionate about driving projects forward by focusing on high-impact outcomes and unblocking progress.
- You lead people to do their best work
- You're a seasoned leader with experience coaching, mentoring, and managing the growth of at least one team of at least two high-performing researchers.
- You have experience resolving performance issues with clarity and kindness.
- You have a supportive and empowering management style and know how to give your people the right amount of autonomy to do their best work.
- You have experience coaching non-researchers on how to effectively use market insights

The Interview Process
Our interview process involves 3 main stages
- Recruiter call (30 minutes). A video chat with Natalie who is part of our hiring team. This focuses on general suitability for Monzo.
- Research Leadership Ways of Working (60 minutes). You will be sent a pre-interview task by the hiring team, which you will discuss in the interview, followed by situation questions.
- Final loop (Total 1hr 30-2 hours). Split into 2 interviews - Managing teams & People + Teamwork & Impact
- Our average process takes around 2-3 weeks but we will always work around your availability. You will have the chance to speak to our recruitment team at various points during your process but if you do have any specific questions ahead of this please contact us on nataliehills@monzo.com
