Role Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering to join our Data Strategy & Product Analytics team. Reporting to the Director of Data Strategy and Product Analytics, you will lead a team of analytics engineers responsible for designing and building the company’s trusted data foundations.

Your team will own the analytics data architecture that powers reporting, dashboards, and insights across the business. You’ll ensure data is modeled, documented, and delivered efficiently and accurately—enabling decision-making at every level of the company. This role is highly cross-functional: you’ll collaborate with stakeholders across Product, Finance, Marketing, Data Science, and GTM. to define requirements, prioritize data needs, and set the roadmap for analytics engineering at Apartment List.

Here’s what you’ll do as part of the team:

  • Own the design and evolution of our analytics data architecture, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Manage and prioritize the analytics engineering roadmap, balancing business needs with foundational technical work
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of analytics engineers, fostering technical excellence and career development
  • Lead the response to high-pressure, revenue-impacting data incidents by coordinating cross-functional teams, mitigating risk quickly, and driving long-term solutions to prevent recurrence
  • Partner with stakeholders across all areas of the business to understand reporting and data needs, translating them into technical requirements, including Product, Finance, Marketing, Data Science, and GTM.
  • Enable AI product development by transforming relational data into graph-based structures (nodes, edges, properties), making advanced queries such as pathfinding, relationship mapping, and recommendations more intuitive and efficient.
  • Champion and design practices around data governance, documentation, testing, reliability and quality standards across datasets and reporting tools
  • Oversee and optimize BI and analytics tooling, enabling self-serve reporting and consistent, trusted metrics
  • Partner with Engineering to evolve our data platform and ensure pipelines are efficient, maintainable, and cost-optimized.
  • Own the design and ongoing evolution of frontend event data strategy, ensuring robust instrumentation, consistent standards, and seamless integration with downstream systems in partnership with Engineering.

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be successful:

  • 6+ years in data or analytics engineering, 3+ years in a leadership or management role
  • Strong technical expertise in SQL, dbt, and modern data modeling practices
  • Expert proficiency with ETL/ELT frameworks and tools: e.g. Airflow, Fivetran
  • Experience designing and maintaining analytics data pipelines, testing best practices, and architecture in cloud-based data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
  • Hands-on experience with BI tooling (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or equivalent), including managing semantic layers, dashboards, and governance
  • Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management, able to balance competing priorities and communicate clearly across technical and business teams
  • Track record of delivering scalable, high-quality data solutions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong people management experience, including setting goals, driving accountability, and developing talent
  • Bonus:
    • You’ve led data roadmap planning and can balance business requests with foundational infrastructure investments
    • Experience with graph data modeling, including designing node, edge, and property schemas from relational or tabular data.
    • Experience with Python or another object-oriented programming language
    • Strong LookML experience
    • Experience with frontend eventing and sessionization

And here’s what’s in it for you:

  • An exceptional team: You’ll join a high-performing, mission-driven group that holds itself to unapologetically high standards while embracing collaboration and learning
  • A chance to grow: In this role, you’ll sharpen your leadership skills while shaping the future of our data ecosystem—gaining experience at the intersection of engineering, analytics, and business strategy.
  • A mission that matters: You’ll help make renting easier and more human for millions of people
