Working arrangements: Hybrid – two or three days per week in the office

The role:

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to work on highway projects where you will take responsibility from feasibility study through to design and implementation.

In order to carry out this role, you will need to demonstrate strong theoretical and practical expertise in highway and traffic engineering, supported by relevant qualifications or
progression towards them, with proven experience in delivering highway projects and a sound understanding of applicable legislation. You will possess excellent IT skills, including AutoCAD and Microsoft packages, alongside programme and contract management capabilities with a focus on budget and financial control.

Key responsibilities:

Responsible for the design and delivery of highway public realm improvements, active travel projects and traffic calming / causality reduction schemes to support transport
initiatives
Work on Section 106 and 278 projects, drainage and sustainable drainage systems projects to safeguard the Council’s highways interest and to reduce the risk of surface water flooding
Demonstrate appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of engineering problems. You will support Principal Engineers on relevant service and operational matters
Ensure design standards / best practices are followed, and compliance with all health and safety requirements such as the Construction Design and Management Regulations
Demonstrate effective project implementation, namely plan, budget, organise direct and control of tasks, people and resources. You will be required to use your programme and contract management skills to demonstrate excellent budgetary and financial management
Ensure all Member and general enquires about service delivery are dealt with promptly and effectively. This would include attending public meetings to actively engage with residents and businesses, and to explain engineering proposals in a non-technical manner



What the client is looking for:

Sound theoretical and practical highway / traffic engineering application demonstrated via a professional qualification or equivalent or working towards such qualification
Proven experience of taking major highway improvement projects from feasibility through to design and implementation
Strong working knowledge of highways, street works, and any other relevant legislations such as health and safety requirements
Experience of delivering cycle improvement schemes in London
Excellent IT skills, which will include the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft packages
Programme and contract management skills to demonstrate excellent budgetary and financial management
