Onsite working is expected for 5 days a week.This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. The RoleWe are seeking a Senior Electrical Technician to join the RACE team, taking a leading role in the wiring, modification, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of advanced electromechanical remote handling systems. This is a senior, hands-on technical position, requiring a high level of technical competence and judgement, in which you will lead by example while supervising and supporting a team of technicians. You will work closely with engineers, project teams, and stakeholders, contributing your expertise to both the development and delivery of innovative new electrical systems, and the support of existing equipment. If this opportunity is of interest, we would be pleased to hear from you.Key Accountabilities:Deliver electrical control cubicles and associated systems, ensuring equipment is built to a high standard, and in accordance with all relevant UKAEA and international standards.Communicate and coordinate effectively with project teams and stakeholders, clearly highlighting any potential build or operational issues, and proposing solutions.Support workshop management by prioritising tasks, highlighting issues where targets cannot be met, deputising for the Electrical Workshop Manager when required, and assisting the Remote Handling Electrical Plant Manager with any modifications to existing equipment.Ensure safe working practices by following relevant risk assessments and procedures within the electrical workshop and associated work areas, and updating these as required.Provide build documentation as required, including marked up drawings and bills of materials, to enable engineering teams to ensure project information is accurate. QualificationsA relevant engineering degree /HND or HNC/ apprenticeship or equivalent with significant industry experienceQualified to the current BS7671 Wiring Regulations.Ability to understand and work from drawings and schematicsComprehensive knowledge of crimping and soldering techniques.Knowledge and experience of assembly of high-density connectors Candidates not meeting the full criteria for the higher level (currently advertised at level 4 graded internally), may be considered for a Level 3 appointment, involving team-based technical work rather than supervisory duties and requiring less experience.Additional InformationA full list of our benefits can be found here https://careers.ukaea.uk/life-at-ukaea/employee-benefits/UKAEA's mission is clean energy for all, and we welcome talented people from all backgrounds who want to help us achieve our mission.
