The Role:

This is a full-time, immediate-start position working with young adults in Further Education (FE) who have a range of special educational needs and disabilities. The role is focused on the planning, delivery, and assessment of learning programs that are highly personalised to meet the complex needs of students with Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering independence, preparing learners for adulthood, and ensuring they achieve their academic and personal best. This position requires a professional who is adaptable, student-centred, and committed to high-quality inclusive practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience teaching and supporting young people (16+) with SEND, preferably within a Further Education setting.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)

  • Exceptional behaviour management strategies tailored for diverse needs.
  • Proficiency in creating and adapting resources for multi-sensory learning.
  • Excellent observational and diagnostic assessment skills to monitor progress.
  • High level of patience, empathy, and resilience.
  • Proven ability to manage and direct the work of Teaching Assistants/support staff.
  • Outstanding organisational and time-management abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across various curriculum areas.
  • Take the lead on the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle for all allocated students.
  • Create a safe, stimulating, and positive learning environment.
  • Write, implement, and review EHCP outcomes and targets in collaboration with students and parents/carers.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including therapists, social workers, and local authority SEND teams.
  • Oversee and support the work of classroom support staff (Teaching Assistants/Learning Support Practitioners).
  • Monitor, record, and report on student attendance, progress, and attainment accurately and punctually.
  • Contribute to the college's inclusive culture and whole-school SEND strategy.
  • Act as a key worker for a caseload of students, offering guidance and pastoral support.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
