The Opportunity: Leading Specialist Education in Bury St Edmunds
We are seeking an inspirational and fully Qualified SEN Teacher (QTS) to join a dedicated specialist school in Bury St Edmunds. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a teacher committed to creating an exceptional learning experience for pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will lead a class, manage support staff, and play a crucial role in the school's commitment to holistic development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a class of pupils with complex SEN, creating and implementing highly individualised, outcome-focused lesson plans and curriculum maps.
- Oversee and direct the work of Teaching Assistants (TAs) within your classroom, ensuring a cohesive and effective support strategy.
- Conduct thorough assessments and track pupil progress against EHCP targets, reporting accurately to parents and the multidisciplinary team.
- Differentiate all instruction creatively and flexibly, using a variety of specialist resources, therapeutic approaches, and technology.
- Maintain comprehensive records and actively contribute to the annual review process, collaborating with external agencies and therapists.
- Champion a positive, safe, and nurturing classroom environment where every pupil feels secure, respected, and motivated.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Significant and proven experience working as a Class Teacher within a dedicated SEN or alternative provision setting.
- In-depth knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and the ability to write and implement effective EHCPs.
- Experience managing and leading a team of classroom support staff.
- A naturally resilient, compassionate, and reflective practitioner, dedicated to continuous professional development in the field of specialist education.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
