  • Job Description
  • We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, proactive Scientist to join our Human Drug Testing team!
  • As part of the HDT team you will undertake analysis of human samples for the presence of a diverse range of drugs of abuse (including anabolic steroids and new psychoactive substances).
  • The service offerings currently include welfare testing; pre-employment testing; support for forensic analysis and testing to support coroners. Matrices can be varied; predominantly hair and urine but can include other biological types. You will also routinely undertake both qualitative and quantitative analysis, dependent upon application; with a wide range of analytical techniques including GC-MS and LC-MS being employed (including instrument maintenance and troubleshooting). The role is varied with a large remit requiring a flexible approach and good time management skills.
  • Key responsibilities
  • The role is predominantly laboratory based
  • Extraction of drugs of abuse from human biological samples (e.g. blood, urine, hair, etc). Sample preparation techniques used include Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) and Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE)
  • Analysis of routine samples using GC-MS and LC-MS techniques
  • Provision of results delivered on time and to the requirements set by our customers, regulatory bodies and quality system following documented procedures
  • Interpretation of analytical data and presentation of results and conclusions
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on a range of scientific equipment
  • Qualifications
  • Education, experience and technical skills
  • Minimum of BSc in Chemistry (or similar relevant scientific discipline) – recent graduates are welcome to apply
  • Previous experience of LC-MS and GC-MS techniques is desirable but not essential
  • Experience of ISO 17025/GLP is desirable but not essential
