AWS Retool Developer Specification We are looking for an experienced AWS focused Retool developer to help us set up and expand a new internal admin application. This will be an ongoing and long term relationship, as the application and its functions will grow over time. The ideal person will have very fluent English, strong communication skills, and the ability to work close to UK working hours. We also want someone who can demonstrate experience building similar Retool based products. About the role You will help establish and configure our Retool container environment on AWS, then design and build a secure and scalable admin application in Retool. The dashboard will call and test existing database functions and Lambda functions that already support our SaaS product. You will work closely with our internal team to extend the application over time with new features, tools, and operational controls. Key responsibilities • Set up and configure our Retool environment using an AWS container based deployment • Connect Retool to our AWS resources including Lambda functions, API endpoints, RDS, and other services • Build a clear and scalable admin application in Retool that supports internal users • Create pages, components, forms, and workflows that call and test existing database procedures and Lambda functions • Implement secure access control within Retool and confirm correct use of roles and permissions • Ensure clear and reliable integration between Retool and our AWS environment • Help design the logical structure and navigation of the admin application • Work with our team to extend the system with new admin and operational features • Provide ongoing improvements and refinements as the project grows • Document the setup, configuration, and usage of the Retool application • Maintain a consistent long term understanding of the environment and its underlying backend services Required skills • Very fluent English and strong communication skills • Strong experience building applications and tools in Retool • Ability to demonstrate previous similar work through screenshots, videos, or live examples • Good understanding of AWS and connecting Retool to AWS resources • Confidence working with Lambda functions, API calls, MySQL queries, and secure authentication • Good understanding of container based deployments on AWS • Ability to design clean and efficient interfaces in Retool • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work with incomplete or evolving requirements • Capability to work close to UK hours and collaborate in real time where needed • Strong reliability, trustworthiness, and efficiency • A self starter mindset with a proactive approach to improving the admin system Nice to have • Experience with building internal tools for SaaS products • Familiarity with AWS networking and IAM • Experience with Docker • Experience with monitoring or observability tools • Previous long term work with a small software team Personal qualities • Reliable and consistent in communication • Proactive, organised, and focused on quality • Clear and confident communicator • Self starter who takes ownership and offers ideas rather than waiting for tasks • Comfortable working in a growing environment where the application will evolve over time Engagement details • Long term and ongoing role for the right person • Part time initially with the option to scale • Work must be performed close to UK timezone • Strong communication and regular updates required
