Are you passionate about making a positive difference in a young person's life?
Conwy Council is looking for a dedicated Residential Childcare Worker to join our team at Sylva Gardens, a registered children's home for up to three young people under the age of 18. We believe in providing a supportive, homely environment where children can thrive, develop skills, and feel included in their community.
Job Role: Residential Childcare Worker
Location: Sylva Gardens Children's Home, Llandudno
Salary: £25,992 - £27,269 per annum (G04)
Employment Basis: Various hours, permanent
What you'll do
As a key part of the team, you'll help young people have their voices heard and support them on their journey to independence. Your role will include:
Creating engaging activities: Plan and implement imaginative activities like trampolining, swimming, baking, or crafting that help children develop new skills and have fun.
Supporting communication: Work with young people who may use behaviors of concern to communicate, using a "can-do" approach to teach them new ways to express themselves.
Providing bespoke support: Deliver kind, friendly, and consistent care, creating a safe and happy environment that is unique to each child's needs.
Promoting positive approaches: Use Active Support, Positive Behaviour Support, and the Reduction of Restrictive Practices to help young people engage in daily life and build strong relationships.
What we're looking for
You should have a genuine passion for working with children and young people, especially those who may exhibit challenging behaviors. We need someone who is:
Experienced: You must have experience working effectively with children and young people who present challenging behaviors.
Qualified: You must have already achieved a QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) to maintain registration with Social Care Wales.
A team player: We need a friendly, trustworthy, and supportive individual with a positive outlook and the ability to build constructive relationships.
Resilient: You'll need the ability to remain calm and supportive, even on challenging days.
We will provide training to help you develop your skills in areas like Makaton and PECS to better communicate with the young people we support.
