  • Job Description
  • The Quality Engineer (QE) plays a key role in supporting client projects by delivering high‑quality management, assurance, and control services.
  • Their primary purpose is to provide clear evidence that both the client and supply chain are meeting all contracted quality requirements across assigned programmes and projects.
  • Their secondary purpose is to support wider programme quality arrangements—ensuring programme-wide standards are met, project-specific requirements are properly established, and quality is effectively implemented across all activities.
  • This role works closely with project teams and the supply chain to ensure consistent, reliable delivery of quality outcomes.
  • Dimensions (Contextual Information)
  • Dependent on specific client requirements
  • Act as an embedded member of the programme/project team, supporting the application of project-specific quality activities as directed by the client’s line manager, ensuring consistency and compliance.
  • Maintain clearly defined quality arrangements that support safe, efficient, and “right‑first‑time” delivery.
  • Maintain Project Quality Plans and MIT Plans in a consistent and controlled manner.
  • Conduct surveillance and inspection activities across client sites and subcontractor facilities.
  • Capture, analyse, and report on quality metrics to support accurate, unambiguous management reporting.
  • Manage the non‑conformance process, ensuring timely closure, identification of preventative actions, and maximisation of project-wide learning.
  • Conduct cross-project and workstream audits as required.
  • Principal Accountabilities

The Quality Engineer is accountable to the Client for

  • Delivering day‑to‑day quality management activities in line with direction from the Client’s Quality Director, personal objectives, or task orders.
  • Reviewing quality records to support oversight and provide assurance that outputs meet specified requirements.
  • Supporting the review and acceptance of Quality Plans and Inspection & Test Plans submitted by the supply chain.
  • Assisting the Client in establishing effective manufacturing and site surveillance programmes aligned to identified risks.
  • Ensuring appropriate controls are in place for the management of Quality Records and “End of Reports” from subcontractors.
  • Supporting the close-out of non‑conformances, including root cause analysis and the application of preventative actions across the project.
  • Supporting Client and subcontractor Quality Auditors to ensure audit findings are resolved promptly within the MDT and supply chain.
  • Ensuring active participation in programme and project risk reviews, opportunity assessments, and lessons‑learned activities.
  • Participating in investigations relating to quality issues.
  • Qualifications
  • Experience in a relevant engineering or quality role.
  • Experience working on large-scale projects, ideally within the nuclear or other heavily regulated sectors, with strong knowledge of product/project quality and an associated engineering discipline.
  • A collaborative, proactive team player with a solid understanding of quality control principles and project-based process management.
  • Strong awareness of operating within an international quality environment.
  • Demonstrated experience assuring compliance with national and international standards such as GS‑R‑3, ISO 9001, ISO 19443, ISO 3834, and EN 10204.
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions LC6 and LC17, and ONR TAG 077.
  • Experience planning and conducting internal and supplier audits.
  • Ability to carry out inspections to appropriate technical standards (e.g., pressurised systems).
  • Skilled in reviewing Quality Records, including material certification and CFSI documentation.
  • Strong capability in analysing quality data across multiple levels of the organisation.
  • Able to influence, challenge constructively, and gain acceptance from key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective internal and external working relationships.
  • Experience using a range of quality tools and techniques, such as histograms, SPC, and cause‑and‑effect analysis.
  • Highly proactive, flexible, and able to plan and work independently across a broad range of issues to drive quality performance.
  • Fluent in English, with French language skills desirable.
  • Mechanical or Civils engineering experience is essential.
  • Qualifications
  • Completion of an apprenticeship in an engineering discipline.
  • Practitioner Grade Member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) or equivalent membership of a recognised engineering institute.
  • Formally recognised Quality qualification, e.g., IRCA Audit certification.
  • Minimum ONC/HNC qualification, preferably in engineering.
  • IRCA Registered Auditor (role specific).
  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification (role specific).
  • Internationally recognised NDT qualifications in Radiography, Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, and/or Ultrasonics (role specific).
