Randstad are recruiting for a Senior Practitioner to join Midlothian Council's Children's and Families Team. This is a full time role offering a fantastic competitive pay rate.

Responsibilities:
- Responding to the needs of children, young people (from pre-birth up to age 26), and their families at the earliest opportunity.
- Receiving and processing initial referrals and concerns regarding a child's welfare or potential harm.
- Undertaking initial assessments to determine the child's needs and level of risk, often working under Child Protection and Looked After and Accommodated statutory structures.
- Working as one of the three "core agencies" (alongside Police and Health) in Child Protection investigations.
- Participating in Inter-agency Referral Discussions (IRD) to jointly assess and plan a response to child protection concerns.
- Applying relevant legal frameworks, such as the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 and the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011, to ensure the child's safety.
- Providing immediate advice, support, and short-term interventions to children and families in crisis.
- In emergency or high-risk situations, implementing protection measures, which may include assessing the need for a Child Protection Order (CPO) or other legal measures.
- Working closely and collaboratively with partners such as the Police, Health (e.g., Health Visitors, GPs), Education, and third sector colleagues.
- Sharing the goal of promoting children and young people's safety and wellbeing and upholding the principles of Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC).
- Ensuring assessments are child-centred, taking into account the children's views and wishes.
- Recording all details, assessments, and interventions accurately and timeously in line with Council policies and procedures.
- Supporting children and young people who may be in conflict with the law or are in continuing care or receiving aftercare services.
- Providing support and information to families to prevent an escalation of concerns, where appropriate.
Requirements:
- Social Work Degree
- SSSC registration
- PVG
