Summary

Based at: Church Road, Northolt / St Albans

Hours: 40 hours per week.

£35,360 per annum

Although the hours of work will normally be 07.00 – 16.00 or 08.00 – 17.00, Mon - Fri, complete flexibility is required as start and finish times will be based on the needs of the department. There will also be the need for occasional weekend shifts.

Must have a driving licence, be at least 21 for insurance purposes, have held a valid UK license for at least 2 years and no driving convictions.

Must be willing to travel to our various branches.

Initially this position will be split over 2 locations- St Albans & Northolt.

Valid Counterbalance forklift licence would be beneficial but not essential.

The role:

The role is for a Carpenter/Joiner to join our carpentry and joinery team based in our Northolt production centre. The position will require work to be completed to a very high standard and a strong team ethic is essential. The work carried out, including jobs for retail and trade customers, must be performed to a professional standard and within the agreed lead-times for our customers. Other duties, such as helping with receipt of goods in the warehouse and assisting with the preparation of large-scale jobs for spray finishing will be needed from time to time. The main job for this role is constructing pre-hung door sets for trade customers.

Duties

  • Assembly of door kits or sets
  • Construction of pre-hung door sets using CNC machine.
  • Construction of pre-hung door sets using routers, jigs and hand tools.
  • Measuring, cutting and machining doors and frames for customers to set measurements and handing’s, according to relevant paperwork.
  • To carry out showroom work when required at our branches.
  • Assist with domestic installation of doors and ironmongery when required.
  • Creating vision panels and glazing doors
  • Rebating pairs of doors
  • Organising jobs so that work can progress in the most efficient way possible.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the workshop facilities, including power tools and dust extraction equipment, ensuring it is kept up to health and safety standards.
  • Preparation work – Unwrapping, checking, cleaning and sanding before, during and after machining has occurred.
  • Making Bespoke doors to the customer’s specifications.
  • Passing all completed carpentry jobs back to the Workshop Manager.
  • Assisting with checking of the quality of all incoming doors to be worked on.
  • Assisting with the warehouse operation, moving and storing of doors.
  • Planning workload in order of commitments made.
  • Ensuring accurate locations for stock is kept (forklift required / training can be provided).
  • Wrapping doors post workshop in order to protect them during transit.

General Duties

  • Keep paperwork precise and clear so that tasks may be followed by colleagues.
  • Ensure that all Company systems and procedures are followed at all times.
  • Keep a tidy, safe working environment following all Health and Safety procedures.
  • Supplied company uniform to be worn at all times and kept neat, clean and presentable.
  • Assist with the training and development of all new recruits.
  • Report any Health and Safety issues to your Line Manager.
  • Take on any reasonable ad hoc duties to ensure the smooth running of The Company.
  • Work additional or flexible hours to suit the needs of the production centre.

Skills Required

  • Knowledge and experience of using jigs and routers.
  • Experience of working with high quality finished products and maintaining them to a high standard.
  • Experience of working with different types of wood and the properties associated with them.
  • Ability to understand paperwork detailing the specifications of jobs including sizes, handing’s, colour, ironmongery positions etc.
  • Ability to work with heavy items, such as fire doors and hardwood frames.
  • A high level of attention to detail with regard to finishing of joints and cut-outs.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience of working on doors and frames with power tools.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
