- What is the purpose of this job?
- In collaboration with key industry partners, RDG is enhancing and rolling out use of the Railcard Validation Service – a critical component in ensuring the accurate and seamless application of Railcard discounts across the rail network.
- The Product Owner for Railcard Validation Service will be responsible for the development and delivery of the product strategy and roadmap, including securing future investment, in line with customer and industry needs. The goal is to improve the customer experience, reduce fraud, enable Railcard discounts on Pay As You Go and support increased rail travel through effective and reliable Railcard validation.
- What can I expect to do in this job?
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include
- Develop the Railcard Validation Service product strategy and roadmap, including business case for future investment, aligned with RDG’s wider business strategy and customer needs.
- Act as subject matter expert on the Railcard Validation Service, engaging with train operating companies, technology partners, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and align product goals.
- Identify, prioritise and deliver the product backlog, including new features and enhancements, based on business value, customer needs and technical feasibility.
- Lead work on data quality and service performance to ensure accurate and reliable Railcard verification across industry.
- Continuously reflect on the product development process and seek ways to improve efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Lead procurement and management of third-party suppliers to support delivery as required. Optimise spend and ensure compliance with contractual commitments, including deliverables, SLAs and KPIs.
- Conduct ongoing review of market and customer needs to stay informed about trends, feedback, and user behaviour, informing product roadmap and backlog prioritisation.
- Support adoption of the Railcard Validation Service across the industry and ensure compliance with technical and operational guidelines.
- Analyse key performance indicators for the service to identify and address operational issues proactively.
- Manage budgets and identify opportunities for efficiencies and optimisation of spend.
- Support promotion and understanding of the Railcard Validation Service by reviewing and validating internal and external communications.
- Demonstrable experience working in a modern agile Product Manager role, developing a product roadmap and managing a product end-to-end to grow usage and customer satisfaction
- Experience developing a deep understanding of customer needs and translating into clear product requirements
- Experience developing and prioritising a product backlog and driving delivery of the product roadmap
- Data-driven and performance mindset - ability to analyse data, form hypotheses, and decide what to do next
- Customer first approach balanced with commercial acumen
- Effective stakeholder management skills and an excellent communicator
- Hands-on approach, not just theoretical
- Strong work ethic with a real commitment to continuous improvement and working as a team
