Principal Legal Officer Hourly Rate: £50Location: Leeds, LS1Job Type: Hybrid, temp contract We are seeking a Principal Legal Officer to join our team in Leeds. This role is crucial in providing high-quality legal services that support the council’s strategic objectives, particularly in the area of Children's Social Care Law. The successful candidate will handle a substantial caseload of complex legal matters and represent the council in various legal proceedings. Day-to-day of the role: Undertake and manage a substantial personal caseload of complex legal work, primarily focusing on children’s social care legal matters.Provide legal representation for council colleagues and other clients in tribunals, County Court, and Higher courts, as permitted.Conduct investigatory and preparatory work necessary for the effective presentation of cases in court.Draft and issue court proceedings and other legal documentation, including instructions to counsel.Provide expert legal advice and support to committees, offering guidance on complex matters both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal colleagues, external stakeholders, and parties to enhance service delivery.Stay updated with legislative and case law developments relevant to the council’s work and advise accordingly.Meet all professional requirements, such as those set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for personal development and standards. Required Skills & Qualifications: Qualified Solicitor or Barrister entitled to hold a practising certificate, or FCILEX with Legal Executive Advocate Certificate (Family).Demonstrable experience in managing a complex personal caseload.Strong advocacy skills, with experience in handling complex contested hearings.Excellent communicatio
