The Opportunity: Specialist Primary Education in Thetford
We are looking for an inspiring and fully Qualified Primary SEN Teacher (QTS) to join a welcoming and child-centred special school in Thetford. This is a full-time position for an educator who understands the complexities of primary-aged children with diverse and significant learning needs. You will be responsible for leading a primary class, managing support staff, and ensuring a nurturing, stimulating, and highly personalised curriculum is delivered daily.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a primary class of pupils with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and pupils with communication and sensory needs.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver creative and highly differentiated lessons across the entire primary curriculum, adapting content to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Manage and mentor a team of dedicated Teaching Assistants (TAs), providing clear direction and fostering a collaborative, supportive classroom team culture.
- Conduct regular, meaningful assessments to track pupil development, reporting progress accurately and contributing detailed information for annual reviews.
- Integrate therapeutic approaches (e.g., PECS, TEACCH, sensory regulation strategies) into daily practice to support holistic development.
- Maintain rigorous safeguarding and pastoral care for all pupils, ensuring a secure and happy learning environment.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is mandatory, with experience at the primary level (EYFS/KS1/KS2).
- Substantial and demonstrable experience working as a Class Teacher within a specialist SEN or primary resource provision.
- Expert knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and how to effectively adapt it for pupils with complex SEN.
- Proven ability to lead a classroom team and effectively deploy support staff.
- A naturally patient, reflective, and energetic practitioner, committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
