Band 5 £31,049 - £37,796 Per annum, pro rata if part-time

Hours: 22.5 - 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

MKUH Maternity team are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible midwives who have a passion for providing excellent midwifery care. You will work in collaboration with women and their families, supporting personalised choice, and high standards of care.

An excellent comprehensive induction package is provided to enable development of your midwifery skills in all areas. You will also be supported to complete a robust preceptorship programme with regular clinical and pastoral support from the retention and practice development lead midwives.

Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive orientation programme and are assured that they will receive appropriate support.

The post holder will work as a member of the team, providing and leading midwifery care to the service users and families accessing the services at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

The postholder will maintain own clinical skills and competencies and have excellent communication skills. The postholder will work within the NMC Code of professional standards and behaviour, and Trust guidelines and procedures.

The postholder will work within the multi-professional team and will be responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based care for service users attending the Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.

The postholder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of midwifery care needs of the individual in hospital and community setting depending on allocation to the in-patient area or Continuity of Care teams

The postholder will provide accurate, unbiased, non-judgemental evidence-based information to both the multi-professional team and service users.

Clinical Practice

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care consistent with evidence-based practice for service users, parents, babies and families

• Discuss options and support families in making informed choice in their plan of care.

Communication and Relationship Skills

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the multi-professional team, allied groups within the acute Trust and Community Health, public and voluntary sectors.

• Represent and promote the Women's Service Unit, Women & Children's Division and Trust internally and externally as required.

Professional and Legal Responsibilities

• Abide by legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice in accordance with the NMC Code of professional standards and behaviour (2019)

• Maintain a high standard of professional practice at all times, developing the role of the midwife in the best interests of the profession and service user in accordance with the NMC Code (2015)

Education, Training and Development

• Completion of the MKUH midwifery preceptorship portfolio

• Undertake appropriate activities to update professional knowledge and skills.

Operational and Working Conditions

• To comply with the Health and Safety Policy in accordance with the agreed policies and procedures. To report any accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards or serious untoward incidents in accordance with the agree procedures.

• Participate in the hospital and community on-call rotas dependent on area of work.
