About

  • Role Overview
  • Are you an outcome‑driven problem solver with a sharp commercial mindset?
  • We’re looking for a Portfolio Analyst who thrives on digging beneath the surface—someone who sees systems, not symptoms, and uses insight to drive meaningful decisions. If you’re practical, concise, and dependable with strong follow‑through, you’ll feel right at home here.
  • In this role, you’ll help shape and optimise our value‑stream portfolio, working closely with partners across the business to ensure investments deliver real impact.
  • With a clear career path into Portfolio Partner/Manager or Senior Portfolio Analyst roles, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio segment and play a deeper role in investment planning and benefits realisation.
  • You will enable value-based decision making across Genus’ technology portfolio. Provide clear insight on where value is created or at risk, support prioritisation and planning, and drive adoption of portfolio ways of working across product/value-stream teams and standalone projects.
  • Primary Outcomes (12–18 months)
  • A consistent portfolio benefits register with owners, baselines, and metrics; variance is actively managed.
  • Exec-ready portfolio dashboards that tell the story (value, flow, risk) — not just numbers.
  • Clean portfolio data (agreements on standards, cadence, and quality checks).
  • PI/quarterly planning supported by clear options, dependencies, and capacity trade-offs.
  • Portfolio tools configured to support the process; teams reliably use them.
  • This role is hybrid with some office time in our Stapeley office
  • You Will
  • Key Responsibilities (four buckets)
  • 1) Portfolio Insight & Value Realisation
  • Analyse portfolio health across products and projects; surface trends, systemic risks, and bottlenecks.
  • Support business case creation; define benefits hypotheses, baselines, and measures.
  • Track benefits to realisation (financial and non-financial); challenge assumptions and recommend corrective actions when off-track.
  • Consolidate value performance by value stream and report to CIO/CFO/ExCo.
  • 2) Planning & Prioritisation Support
  • Run the portfolio intake mechanics and prep for PI and annual planning.
  • Operate the portfolio Kanban (funnel → review → analyse → commit → done) with clear entry/exit criteria.
  • Map cross-team dependencies and capacity vs demand; present trade-offs and sequencing options.
  • Apply portfolio guardrails (e.g., capacity allocation across run/grow/transform; platform vs product).
  • 3) Governance, Reporting & Data Quality
  • Produce concise, exec-ready reporting (dashboards, one-page briefs) that explains impact, options, and recommendations.
  • Maintain the portfolio “single source of truth” and data standards; run quality checks ahead of governance forums.
  • Manage portfolio-level risks/issues with early escalation and clear impact statements.
  • Align cadence with VTO (monthly portfolio reviews; quarterly benefits/value reviews post-PI).
  • 4) Tools, Practices & Adoption (Asana/PPM, Power BI)
  • Enable adoption of portfolio ways of working; coach PMs/POs on standards and data quality.
  • Configure tools to reflect the process (portfolio Kanban, epics/features, benefits registers); integrate with reporting.
  • Partner with VTO to link portfolio data to change/adoption metrics.
  • Continuously improve reporting and insight generation (Power BI, data model enhancements).
  • Key Interfaces
  • Product/Value-Stream Teams: roadmaps, benefits, dependencies, capacity.
  • Platform Teams: capacity/guardrails, cross-stream dependencies.
  • VTO/Change: adoption plans, readiness, benefits realisation reviews.
  • Finance/Procurement: business cases, benefits tracking, capitalisation and spend visibility.
  • Measures of Success (KPIs)
  • % initiatives with named benefits owner, baseline, and target (≥95%).
  • Benefits realisation: £ realised vs plan; % on-track benefits (≥80% on track).
  • Portfolio flow: commitment reliability per PI; WIP within agreed limits.
  • Data quality: % portfolio items meeting data standards before governance (≥95%).
  • Dependency health: % critical cross-team dependencies resolved within PI (≥90%).
  • Requirements
  • Skills & Experience (Must-Have)
  • Strong analytical capability; able to translate data into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Comfort with financial metrics and benefits tracking; supports business case development.
  • Experience in portfolio/PMO analytics within product or programme environments.
  • Stakeholder management with senior leaders; crisp written and verbal communication.
  • Working knowledge of agile/SAFe-style planning cadences and concepts.
  • Competent in portfolio/reporting tools (e.g., Asana/PPM) and Power BI (or equivalent).
  • Skills & Experience (Desirable)
  • Asana (admin/config), Power BI data modelling; basic SQL advantageous.
  • Exposure to Azure DevOps; understanding of operating model transformation.
  • Change management familiarity (working with VTO/OCM teams).
