- Navantia UK is strengthening our early careers and training capability at our Methil site, and we’re looking for an Operations Apprenticeship Manager / Lead to shape the next generation of skilled tradespeople. If you’re passionate about developing people, have a strong background in heavy engineering or fabrication, and want to make a meaningful impact on Scotland’s growing fabrication and shipbuilding sector, we’d love to hear from you.
- About the Role
- In this role, you’ll lead our training team to ensure Apprentices and Trainees receive high-quality, safe and engaging practical training. You’ll oversee workplace skills development, support performance and progression, and work closely with operations, college partners and internal stakeholders to deliver a consistently excellent learning experience.
- This position is well-suited to someone with a multi-skilled engineering background, ideally with strong experience in heavy metal fabrication. Knowledge of welding or pipework is beneficial but not essential.
- What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead and support the training team to deliver high-quality practical skills development.
- Oversee workplace assessment, coaching, mentoring and performance reviews for Apprentices and Trainees.
- Work closely with supervisors and operational teams to plan meaningful training experiences aligned with course requirements.
- Promote a positive, safe learning culture where individuals feel supported and confident.
- Liaise with college partners, education providers and internal leaders to ensure training plans align with curriculum expectations.
- Identify learning needs, additional support requirements (including neurodiversity), and opportunities for improvement.
- Engage with visitors, customers and external partners to champion training and apprenticeship programmes.
- Maintain accurate digital records and progress tracking for all learners.
- Support social value activities such as school/college talks, community events and careers initiatives.
- Ensure all training and practical work meets the required health, safety and quality standards.
- What You’ll Bring
- A recognised trade qualification and substantial experience in an engineering, heavy manufacturing or shipbuilding environment.
- Strong background in heavy fabrication, with the ability to demonstrate safe, competent working practices.
- Experience managing or leading teams at multiple levels.
- The ability to mentor, guide and support learners from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with college partners, operational teams and external stakeholders.
- Good organisational skills with experience in planning, monitoring and reporting.
- A passion for people development, safety, and continuous improvement.
