We currently have some exciting opportunities for industrial placement students to join Caterpillar. We are looking for talented, ambitious people from various backgrounds who are interested in setting out on the road to success and in return, we will provide you the training, mentoring, and support you need to have a successful placement year. *Please note that in order to be eligible to complete a 12 Month Industrial Placement commencing July 2026, you must be in your penultimate year of study unless enrolled in an integrated master’s program. GMET is a core function advancing Caterpillar manufacturing capabilities through engineering innovation and technology deployment, with opportunities to be involved in subject matters such as controls and systems, new process engineering, advanced manufacturing technologies, project management, quality engineering and more. As a GMET placement student, you will be immersed in a variety of projects that span the principle of manufacturing, engineering and technology. These projects will vary in subject matter, size and scope, giving you valuable exposure to how engineering solutions are delivered in real world, fast paced industrial settings. Be part of a large community of placement students across multiple disciplines. Who are we looking for? We are looking for placement students who thrive in collaborative environments, communicate effectively across the business, are self-motivated with genuine enthusiasm for engineering and technology. You should demonstrate intellectual curiosity, strong analytical thinking and a creative approach to problem solving. Experience or interest in tools such as AutoCAD, Creo, 3D printing, tooling and fixture design, or appreciation for PLC software is desirable. Just as important as technical ability, we value adaptability, leadership, problem solving and resilience to succeed in a dynamic, project driven workplace. A predicted 2:1 Honour’s degree in one of the following subjects: Automotive Engineering Aerospace Engineering Advanced Manufacturing and Operations Digital and Technology Solutions Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing and Management Manufacturing Engineering Engineering and Technology Digital Manufacturing Engineering Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Digital Technology Innovation Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering Manufacturing Engineering with Management Recruitment Process: Here is a brief overview of what you can expect when applying to our Placement Student roles… Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application and attach your CV, this must be done before the closing date of the role that you're applying for. Once we reach the close date, we will begin reviewing all our applications, this may take a little while and we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful in moving forward to the next stage. Stage one – Video Interview: If selected, you will be invited to attend a pre-recorded user-friendly video interview which you have one week to complete and submit. You are able to record your answers several times to allow you plenty of practice if required. Please ensure that you check your spam emails for this invite. At this stage if you are successful, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre onsite on 22nd January 2026. Stage two – Assessment Centre: The Assessment Centre day will look at a range of behaviours such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. We aim to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible. Stage three – Offer: After the Assessment Centre, the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our preferred candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible.
