Job Description Manufacturing Engineer - External Supply Chain - Submarines Full-Time Derby (5 days on site) An exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer has arisen within the Supply Chain team in Nuclear (Submarines). The successful candidate will oversee Manufacturing Engineering activities across the External Supply Chain to ensure the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and methods that consistently meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate, and lead time (SQCD). Assess the capabilities of manufacturing suppliers and support source selection and approval across the supply chain. When required, serve as the Product Introduction (PI) Component Lead, integrating manufacturing engineering activities across the full value stream and acting as the primary Manufacturing Engineering representative within the core Integrated Product Team (IPT) for assigned parts. What you will be doing: Health, Safety & Product Integrity – Raise HSE concerns, ensure product safety, and verify that manufacturing processes consistently meet design intent and specification requirements. Quality & Technical Authority – Drive a zero-defect culture across the supply chain, ensure compliance with company, legislative and technical standards, and apply appropriate manufacturing process controls and approvals. Pre-Contract & Requirements Management – Lead technical aspects of pre-contract reviews, define compliant specifications, and identify opportunities for new or improved manufacturing processes, systems and technologies. Planning, Programme & Risk Management – Plan and manage schedules, resources, costs and risks; communicate status to stakeholders; and support supplier programme and order-book delivery. Capability Deployment & Continuous Improvement – Develop, validate and improve manufacturing processes and digital systems to meet SQCD (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Lead Time) objectives, using data and lessons learned to drive improvement. Collaboration, Knowledge Sharing & PI Leadership – Work across IPTs, suppliers and internal teams to integrate manufacturing engineering activities, represent the full value stream for owned parts, and share best practice across communities of practice. People & Relationships – Develop personal capability, coach others, and build strong, effective relationships with suppliers to ensure aligned delivery to Rolls-Royce requirements. Position Qualifications: To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who is/has: Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g. UK minimum HNC/foundation degree or other national equivalent) Recognised national or international engineering accreditation (e.g. UK IEng or CEng) where available General understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to their business General awareness of Manufacturing Systems and enabling software tools relevant to the business Understanding of Manufacturing Engineering Processes relevant for the role Please be aware that the priority will be given to employees identified as being at high risk.
