About

The Company At Rolls‑Royce SMR, our mission is bold and essential: to deliver clean, affordable, secure energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) is a British‑designed solution to a global energy challenge, offering reliable low‑carbon power through world‑leading engineering and innovation. We are in pole position to become a global leader in SMRs and the UK’s premier green export technology shaping a cleaner, more resilient energy future. The Team You’ll be joining our Plant Support Equipment (PSE) function — a rapidly growing engineering capability responsible for the specialised tools, equipment, shielding, decontamination systems, and waste‑handling solutions required to install, commission, operate, maintain, inspect, and eventually decommission our SMR fleet. This team ensures every SMR site has the right equipment at the right time, enabling safe operations, efficient build programmes and long‑term plant reliability. The work you support will directly influence the safety, maintainability and operability of one of the UK’s most important new energy programmes. Role Summary Job Title: Manager – Nuclear Plant Support Equipment This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a brand‑new capability at the heart of a nationally significant programme. As the PSE Manager, you will set the direction, define the delivery strategy, and lead the engineering team responsible for the development and governance of nuclear plant support equipment across the full lifecycle. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will be doing the following: Leading and developing a growing multi‑disciplinary team of engineers and secondees. Scoping and defining all Nuclear PSE requirements from special installation tools to decontamination systems, shielding and waste‑handling equipment. Creating and managing supplier relationships, including key nuclear partners, to ensure equipment is delivered on time and to the right standards. Embedding robust requirements management, including traceability through DOORS and structured activity modules. Overseeing technical governance, ensuring compliance with safety, quality and regulatory expectations. Driving cross‑functional collaboration, working closely with component engineering, systems engineering, analysis, manufacturing, supply chain and construction partners. Championing continuous improvement, helping the team and processes mature as the programme scales. The Impact This role is highly impactful: the equipment you oversee will directly influence how safely, efficiently and repeatably our SMRs can be built and operated. You will help design the foundation for an entire new fleet affecting build certainty, operational readiness, safety culture, time‑to‑power, and long‑term maintainability. This is a chance to leave a significant legacy in a growing, future‑shaping organisation. Essential Qualifications We are looking for someone who brings: Proven experience leading engineering delivery in complex or regulated environments. Strong background in requirements capture, technical documentation, trade‑offs and structured decision‑making. Experience influencing and coordinating across design, analysis, supply chain and manufacturing functions. Exposure to lifecycle work: installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, decommissioning and outages. A degree in engineering or equivalent professional experience Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or active progress toward it. Clear understanding of regulated, high‑integrity engineering environments.
