We’re now expanding our creative team and are looking for a Writer/Researcher with a passion for history, strong English writing skills, and a flair for engaging educational storytelling. About the Role You’ll research historical events from decisive battles and political crises to lesser-known stories of courage, invention, or tragedy and craft scripts that make them both educational and emotionally compelling. You’ll work closely with our creative director and animators to ensure that each script is factually accurate, narratively strong, and suited to our fast-paced, visual storytelling style. This role is perfect for someone who loves history, writes with clarity and emotion, and understands what keeps YouTube audiences hooked. Responsibilities Research major and minor historical events, figures, and periods from credible sources (academic works, archives, first-hand accounts, reputable media). Write engaging, historically accurate voiceover scripts (typically 8–10 minutes) that simplify complex events while maintaining depth and authenticity. Capture the distinctive Simple History tone: clear, neutral, factual, yet emotionally resonant and accessible to all ages. Build scripts that work visually highlighting moments suitable for animation, maps, or infographics. Distill military, political, and social concepts into easily understood explanations without losing nuance. Collaborate with the animation and editorial team to refine pacing, tone, and educational clarity. Fact-check thoroughly and provide source notes for all claims and key details. Adapt to feedback quickly and maintain consistency with the channel’s style and educational goals. Requirements Fluent English speaker and writer exceptional command of grammar, tone, and storytelling flow. Strong background in history, journalism, or related research fields. (Degree or equivalent experience preferred.) Experience writing for YouTube, documentaries, or educational media. Ability to translate complex historical material into accessible, engaging scripts. Skilled at building clear narrative structures with strong openings and satisfying conclusions. Detail-oriented researcher who cares deeply about accuracy and context. Able to work independently and meet deadlines while coordinating with a remote creative team. Bonus Points For Knowledge of military, world, or social history. Familiarity with Simple History’s style and tone. Prior experience writing for animated or illustrated content.
