Special Education Support Specialist: Join Our Innovative SEN School
Are you passionate about empowering young learners with diverse needs to succeed? Our forward-thinking special educational needs (SEN) school is seeking a dedicated Special Education Support Specialist to join our team. We're committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) can reach their full potential.
About the Role: A Day in the Life
As a Special Education Support Specialist, you'll be a key part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing tailored support to students aged 5-11. Your primary focus will be on fostering confidence, promoting mutual respect, and implementing personalised learning experiences. You'll work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to design and execute individualised learning plans (ILPs).
This role isn't just about academics; it's about holistic development. You'll support students' emotional and social growth by using specialised tools like fidget toys and wobble cushions, and by creating personalised spaces that meet their unique sensory needs. You'll use a calm and respectful approach to address behavioural challenges, modeling positive behaviours and helping students build essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities: Your Impact on Students' Lives

What We're Looking For: Your Skills & Experience
We're searching for a compassionate and adaptable individual with a passion for special education.
Experience: A minimum of a year of experience working with children in an educational or care setting, with a focus on SEMH, ASC, or similar needs.
Qualifications: Relevant certifications such as an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Working with Children, or equivalent training.
Behaviour Management: A proven ability to manage challenging behaviours effectively while fostering a positive atmosphere.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and empathetically with students, parents, and colleagues.
Adaptability: The ability to tailor your support to the unique needs of each child.
Technical Skills: Basic ICT skills for documentation and communication.
Desirable Skills: Additional training in areas like First Aid, Child Protection, or Team Teach is highly valued.
