About the Role
This crucial role involves leading a Key Stage 2 class for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties. You will be responsible for creating an environment that is highly structured, stimulating, and rich in sensory and communicative opportunities. The focus will be on transitioning pupils towards greater independence and preparing them for the next stage of their education. Your creativity in adapting the curriculum and your expertise in personalised learning pathways will be essential to maximise each pupil's progress and quality of life.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver a highly differentiated and engaging curriculum tailored to the specific developmental and academic needs of pupils with SLD, adhering to EHCP outcomes.
- Assess, monitor, and record pupil progress accurately, using specialist assessment tools and data to inform and adjust future teaching and learning strategies.
- Effectively manage and deploy a team of Teaching Assistants (TAs) and support staff within the classroom to optimise support and learning opportunities for all pupils.
- Develop and implement specialised teaching techniques, including strategies for sensory integration, communication (e.g., PECS, objects of reference), and functional life skills.
- Create and maintain a safe, stimulating, and enabling classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate closely with parents/carers, therapists, social care, and other external professionals to ensure a coherent and holistic approach to pupil development and well-being.
- Take lead responsibility for safeguarding and the implementation of care plans, including supporting personal care needs where necessary.
- Actively contribute to whole-school development, sharing best practice and engaging in regular, high-quality professional development.
What We're Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is mandatory.
- Significant, recent experience teaching pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or Complex Needs, preferably within a special school setting.
- A deep understanding of Key Stage 2 curriculum aims and how to substantially adapt them for pupils operating at P-Scales and pre-Key Stage standards.
- Proven ability to design and implement effective individualised communication and behavior support plans.
- A resourceful, flexible, and resilient practitioner with a strong commitment to maximising the independence and quality of life for pupils with SLD.
- Excellent organisational skills, coupled with strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and parental engagement.
- A commitment to ongoing professional growth and a passion for reflective practice.
