About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an inspiring teacher to lead a KS1 class for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties. Roles and Responsibilities
- Planning, preparing, and delivering a highly differentiated and engaging curriculum to meet the specific learning goals of pupils with SLD, in line with individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Assessing, monitoring, and recording pupil progress, using data to inform future planning and provision.
- Managing and directing a team of teaching assistants and support staff to effectively meet pupil needs and classroom objectives.
- Creating a stimulating, safe, and supportive classroom environment that promotes learning and positive behaviour.
- Developing and implementing specialist teaching strategies, including the use of communication aids (e.g., PECS, Makaton) and sensory resources.
- Collaborating effectively with parents/carers, external agencies, therapists, and the wider school community to ensure a holistic approach to pupil development.
- Taking responsibility for pupils' personal care and health needs as required, ensuring their dignity and well-being are maintained.
- Contributing to the wider life of the school, including professional development and whole-school initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience teaching pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or Complex Needs, ideally within a special school setting.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desired, but not essential.
- A comprehensive understanding of the KS1 curriculum and how to adapt and differentiate it for pupils with significant learning barriers.
- Expertise in developing and implementing personalised communication and behaviour management strategies.
- A resilient, patient, and highly positive attitude with a genuine passion for working with children with complex needs.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
