About
Please refer to the How to Apply for a Job (for External Candidates) job aid for instructions on how to apply. If you are an active McGill employee (ie: currently in an active contract or position at McGill University), do not apply through this Career Site. Login to your McGill Workday account and apply to this posting using the Find Jobs report (type Find Jobs in the search bar). Opening the Lab Scan student ID and enter the main door. Unlock each lab—both deadbolt and door handle. Check that all computers are on and in working order, and inspect each keyboard for missing keys. Check on one computer that LearningBranch and the internet are working in each lab. Check that the projector and sound are working in labs 1 and 3. Occasionally check the projector and sound in lab 2 and note it in the Log Book. Prop open the front door at opening time to allow people to access the lab. Turn on the TV display and post the day’s schedule. Lab Reservations Check the schedule and prepare for classes—set up the teacher’s station, lower the screen, turn on the projector, test the sound system. Note any special requirements listed for each lab reservation and set up accordingly—Faronics Insight (limiting software) or exam dividers, for example. Check in with the instructor to make sure that everything is set up the way that they want. Ask anyone who is not in the class to leave 15 minutes before the class is scheduled to begin. Ask class members to hang up coats on the hooks and place their bags and other belongings neatly against the wall. Circulate through the lab at the start of each class and help any students requiring assistance. If there is a test, read the AMLF Test Regulations to the class (found on the bulletin board behind the Help Desk). Put the ‘Class in Progress’ sign on the door and take it down when the class is over. Help Desk Know what is happening in the lab at all times and plan accordingly based on upcoming reservations and the amount of drop-in traffic. Keep work area tidy: make sure headsets are neatly in their proper bins, throw away trash, wipe up spills, organize the lost and found, etc. Maintain order: keep noise levels to a minimum; enforce rules regarding conversation, food and drink; help lost people find their destination; ask disruptive people to leave and alert the Educational Technology Consultant or Security if necessary. Keep the area around the Help Desk secure: when leaving the desk for any period of time inform co-workers or the Educational Technology Consultant. Under no circumstances should anyone other than an AMLF employee be allowed behind the Help Desk. Create PowerPoint slides of lab schedules for the TV display as needed. Minimum Education and Experience: High School Diploma Minimal or No Related Experience Hourly Salary: (AMUSE A) $16.33 Estimated Number of Work Hours per Week: 10 (Part time) Position Start Date: 2025-10-24 Position End Date: 2026-06-30 Deadline to Apply: 2025-10-23 This position is covered by the AMUSE collective agreement.
