Term: Permanent

Location: We have hybrid working in place, with 1-2 days per week, in our office in Canary Wharf.

What exactly will you be doing?

We are recruiting for two Investigation Officers to join the Professional Standards and Regulation service. As an Investigation Officer, you will be responsible for making determinations regarding the fit and proper status of individuals seeking membership with AAT. Your role will involve investigating potential complaints of misconduct and breaches of the Code of Professional Ethics, obtaining information from relevant parties, and drafting detailed written reports on your findings. You will ensure that all investigations are conducted to a consistently high standard, maintaining fairness and professionalism in accordance with AAT’s policies and procedures.

Major objectives
Your major objectives will include:

  • Manage and progress your own fit and proper investigation caseloads, taking personal responsibility for each stage from initiation to conclusion, including timely correspondence and resolution.
  • Analyse evidence thoroughly and make reasoned, informed recommendations in line with AAT policies, clearly articulating the rationale behind your conclusions.
  • Maintain high standards in report writing for all case types, ensuring reports provide an accurate and balanced view of the investigation and its effectiveness.
  • Conduct interviews and draft witness statements for both internal and external witnesses in preparation for case hearings.
  • Ensure that all fit and proper assessments, investigations, and disciplinary cases are conducted in accordance with evidence rules and within appropriate timeframes.
  • Actively engage with AAT members, complainants, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, and legal advisors to progress cases through to closure.
  • Ensure the timely publication of regulatory decisions, maintaining high standards of accuracy and clarity in public case information, and use AAT systems for accurate reporting.
  • Provide specialist advice on ethics, maintain accurate records of ethical enquiries, share intelligence with other authorities, and stay updated on industry trends and best practices.

What are we looking for?

  • Capable of building good working relationships, with excellent communication skills, particularly in questioning and listening, and strong teamwork abilities.
  • Strong knowledge in investigating complaints and misconduct within regulatory and disciplinary frameworks.
  • Expertise in conducting thorough analysis of evidence, drafting detailed investigation reports, and making decisions quickly.
  • An understanding of Professional ethics and strong knowledge of anti-money laundering legislation.
  • Experience in presenting information to conduct committees/panels.
  • Skill in leading, directing, motivating, and supporting others, while providing advice on standards to members and the public.
  • Excellent report writing skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to take ownership and responsibility, consistently setting high standards to ensure high-quality outcomes and continuous improvement.

Join our vibrant team and be a driving force in shaping AAT’s service excellence and operational impact. If you are driven, passionate about delivering exceptional results and ready to make a difference, we want to hear from you!

What are the benefits?

  • At AAT we believe in treating our staff well and this is reflected in our wide-ranging benefits, which include:
  • Hybrid working (1-2 days per week in our London office) and opportunities for further flexible working.
  • 25 days’ annual leave, increasing one day per year up to a maximum of 30 days plus bank holidays.
  • Great pension scheme, life assurance and critical illness cover.
  • Health cash plan.
  • Enhanced maternity and shared parental leave contributions of up to 6 months’ full pay depending on the length of service.
  • Regular wellbeing initiatives.
  • Cycle2Work scheme and much more.
