- Role Overview
- The Investigation Engineer will undertake site-based and office-based activities relating to the assessment, testing, and monitoring of concrete structures, with opportunities to develop their knowledge in cathodic protection (CP) systems. The role involves carrying out detailed site inspections, structural and material testing, CP monitoring, and producing high-quality technical reports to support maintenance, repair, and asset management decisions.
- Responsibilties
- Conduct on-site investigations of reinforced concrete and other structural assets.
- Carry out non-destructive and intrusive testing, including concrete sampling, half-cell potential mapping, resistivity testing, carbonation depth, and chloride content analysis.
- Undertake the installation, commissioning, and monitoring of cathodic protection systems.
- Collect and interpret CP performance data, including potential measurements and depolarisation tests.
- Diagnose deterioration mechanisms such as corrosion, cracking, and spalling.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports including methodology, results, analysis, and recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of site work, photographs, and test data.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant British Standards, industry guidance, and project specifications.
- Prepare risk assessments and method statements for all site activities.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders professionally and effectively.
- Support the continuous improvement of investigation and testing methodologies.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline; OR extensive relevant industry experience.
- Proven experience in concrete and structural testing.
- Strong technical writing skills and ability to present findings clearly and concisely.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work outdoors in varied site conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- You must live in the Glasgow area
Desirable
- Practical experience with cathodic protection monitoring and performance assessment.
- Knowledge of BS EN 12696 (Cathodic Protection of Steel in Concrete).
- Familiarity with UK highways/TS specifications and Network Rail standards.
- Experience with data logging equipment and specialist testing instruments.
- CSCS card and relevant site safety training.
- Hands-on training and mentorship from experienced engineers.
- Exposure to a variety of projects across different sectors.
