Durham County Council is seeking a skilled Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our Children's Social Care team. This is a crucial role, ensuring that the care plans for looked-after children and young people are robust, child-focused, and regularly reviewed.

Roles and Responsibilities 📋
As an IRO, you will be the independent voice ensuring that the needs of looked-after children are met. Your key responsibilities will include:
Chairing statutory reviews for children in care, including Looked After Children (LAC) reviews. 🗣️
Providing independent scrutiny of care plans, ensuring they are a true reflection of the child's needs and wishes. 🔍
Listening to and representing the voice of the child, ensuring they are at the center of all decision-making. 🧒
Challenging social workers and managers when care plans are not progressing effectively or in the child's best interests. ⚖️
Monitoring the Local Authority's performance and highlighting any areas of concern to senior management. 📈
Working collaboratively with all professionals involved in the child's life to promote positive outcomes. 🤝
Recording and disseminating review minutes and actions accurately and promptly. 📝
Key Requirements ✨
To be successful in this vital role, you must meet the following criteria:
You must be a qualified Social Worker. 🎓
You hold a current and valid registration with Social Work England. ✅
You have an updated enhanced DBS check. 🛡️
You possess significant post-qualifying experience in children's social work. 💼
You have a comprehensive knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and relevant regulations and guidance. 📜
You are an excellent communicator with strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills. 🗣️
You have a proven ability to work independently and make balanced, evidence-based decisions. 💡
