DWP Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)
Location: East London - Hybrid role
Contract: 1 month temp role with potential to extend
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £15 - 20 per hour
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to provide specialist support to victim-survivors of domestic abuse referred by DWP staff or through self-referrals.
This hybrid role is split between co-location in local Jobcentres and office-based work in Tower Hamlets. You will carry out risk assessments, safety planning, and ongoing casework, while also acting as a key link between DWP teams and domestic abuse services.
- Provide comprehensive risk assessments, safety planning and tailored support to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
- Manage a caseload of up to 30 clients of all genders, offering practical and emotional support.
- Work proactively with DWP staff, offering advice, case guidance, and raising awareness around domestic abuse and best practice.
- Support survivors in improving financial security, accessing benefits, and exploring employment or education opportunities.
- Deliver face-to-face support, including attending Jobcentre appointments, court hearings, and multi-agency meetings.
- Advocate for survivors at borough-wide meetings and represent cases at MARAC.
- Maintain accurate, confidential case records and contribute to monitoring, outcomes, and reporting requirements.
- Build strong working relationships with partner agencies to ensure coordinated, high-quality support.
- At least one year's experience supporting survivors of domestic or sexual abuse.
- Strong understanding of the social, economic and emotional impacts of domestic violence.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, managing cases, and developing safety plans.
- Confident working within a multi-agency framework.
- Knowledge of survivor support options, including housing, criminal justice processes, and civil remedies.
- Excellent safeguarding knowledge for both adults and children.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage crisis situations with professionalism and resilience.
