The Capabilities Aerodynamics Computations team in Filton offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of Flight Physics, where you will support the delivery of world-class computational simulation services. As a CFD Engineer/Developer, you will be part of a department committed to technical excellence and continuous innovation, specifically focusing on critical disciplines such as multi-phase flows, convective heat transfer, and icing. This role places you at the heart of a team that provides the essential tools used to define the future of aerodynamic modeling within Airbus Civil Aircraft. In this position, you will leverage high-performance computing (HPC) hardware to drive a simulation-based engineering design process that is fundamentally changing how aircraft are built. Your work will directly address the evolving landscape of environmental regulations by integrating complex multi-physics processes, including particle impact and conjugate heat transfer. By deepening the understanding of aircraft behavior in inclement weather, you will play a vital role in designing the systems that protect aircraft and ensure the safety of flight operations worldwide. HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM Support, maintenance, and rationalization of existing legacy multi-physics and icing tools Development, industrialization, and validation of the next generation of multi-physics and icing tools. Collaboration with a wide range of customers involved in aerodynamic shape design, data modeling, anti-icing system design, aero-thermal analysis, multidisciplinary analysis, and certification processes. Engagement with the Airbus Group Flight Physics Capabilities community, as well as other Airbus divisions including Airbus Helicopters and Airbus Defence & Space. Interact with the Airbus Group Flight Physics Capabilities community, but also with other Airbus divisions (Airbus helicopter, Airbus Defense & Space) with some key R&T partners (DLR, ONERA and British Universities) and also other stakeholders (Safran Group and suppliers). ABOUT YOU. Mastery of modern scientific programming and scripting languages, specifically Python, is mandatory for this role. You hold a PhD or an Engineering degree in Fluid Dynamics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science, complemented by significant industrial experience and a profound understanding of icing modeling and aero-thermal physics. You demonstrate mastery of state-of-the-art Computational Fluid Dynamics methods in one or more areas of CFD or multi-physics modelling including fluid dynamics, convective heat transfer, multi-phase flows, particle impact, boundary layer physics with special focus on roughness and transition. knowledge of meteorological characteristics of the atmosphere and certification processes could be valuable Not a 100% match?
