About

Thank you for expressing an interest in Homerton Helpers; the volunteer programme run by Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Homerton Helpers is open to everyone aged 18 and over. Volunteers must be available to come into the hospital for a minimum of three hours per week and commit to volunteering for at least six months.

We have many wards and departments that require support, and your offer of help is very much welcomed. You will be fully supported on your arrival here at Homerton, and we will arrange an induction to help you settle in.

In order to help us do so, please follow the instructions below to register with Trac (if you haven’t previously) and complete the short application form.

To understand your area of interest/expertise please can you be clear in your application on what skills and experience you have and what type of role/s you are willing to do.

We will be in touch once we have had a chance to assess your application to arrange an informal interview.

You will be asked to complete some paperwork and send us copies of your ID so that we can register you on our system. We are really keen to get you set up as a volunteer as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Once again, thank you for your offer of support. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Homerton.

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a high performing and flourishing organisation serving the population of Hackney, East London, The City and beyond.

We are extremely proud of the fact that Homerton Hospital has recently attained the highest possible rating of "Outstanding" from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Our integrated Trust provides comprehensive hospital and community health services for its local population and a range of specialist services for a wider group of patients. In addition, the Trust manages services out of St Leonard's Hospital and the Mary Seacole Nursing Home.

Homerton aims to ensure equality and value diversity, and we are committed to inclusion for all of our staff. This is reflected in our policies, procedures and People Plan. All of our staff are expected to embody our Trust values at all times.

We are also committed, through our Fair Recruitment Standards, to ensuring all applicants are treated fairly.

Homerton has a proud tradition of supporting and developing its staff, including its well-regarded and valued nursing community, and all staff are able to take advantage of a great range of benefits.

Homerton is proud to have been included on the HSJ & Nursing Times Best Places to Work list

Our Homerton Helpers volunteering scheme aims to:

Improve the patient experience - by harnessing the talents and energies of local people to make services more responsive to individual patients.

Support staff - by providing an extra pair of hands and taking on roles that complement and enhance the care provided by paid employees.

Provide opportunities for individual volunteers – whether this is learning new skills, meeting new people, or having a chance to ‘give something back’.

The volunteering programme does not cover individuals interested in short term work experience or medical placements, both of which are covered by separate initiatives within the trust.

Please contact the volunteer team, email huh-tr.volunteering@nhs.net for further details.

Proud member of the Disability Confident employer scheme

Disability Confident
A Disability Confident employer will generally offer an interview to any applicant that declares they have a disability and meets the minimum criteria for the job as defined by the employer. It is important to note that in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. For more details please go to Disability Confident.
