About
Helpline Operator
Permanent/part-time - 12 hours per week
Salary - £29,710 pro-rata
Location - Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire
Our vision is for a world where epilepsy is irrelevant and people with epilepsy lead the lives they want to. We are the UK’s only charity transforming the lives of people with epilepsy through world leading research, advocacy, and care. We put people at the heart of everything that we do.
About the role
Our confidential helpline is looking for a part-time Helpline Operator. If you understand the importance of listening, and can empathise, this role may be for you. Our Helpline team provides emotional support, and information about epilepsy, via telephone, email, and webchat.
The helpline provides a confidential service giving up-to-date information and offering emotional support, using counselling skills, to anyone affected by epilepsy. You could be speaking to a health professional, someone with the condition themselves, or close family members. Challenging, but rewarding this role will develop your understanding of epilepsy and give you a whole new set of skills for professional and self-development.
Once trained you will need to be available to work for three, four-hour shifts per week, Monday to Saturday: either 8.45am to 12.45pm, 12.15pm to 4.15pm or 3.45pm to 7.45pm. Some flexibility is required with shift patterns. We operate hybrid working arrangements, some shifts must be taken in the office based in Chalfont St Peter and some from home. Equipment will be provided, but a confidential home workspace is essential.
Extensive training will be given, including attending an ‘introduction to counselling’ course, along with support before you take calls independently.
