Come and develop your talent within this role!
Due to the promotion of our existing Head of Music we are looking to build our team. Whether you are a talented Music Teacher who is aspiring to middle management, or an experienced, existing Head of Music, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the continued development of the thriving musical life of Winton Community Academy. We are well known for music and the performing arts as a school, and are proud to be one of the lead schools for Hampshire music Hub which is an exciting opportunity to be part of as a music lead.
Working closely with the Head of Performing Arts, you will take responsibility for the academic provision and outcomes of pupils in the school at all key stage 3/4 and oversee a vibrant and challenging curriculum, building on a strong record of examination outcomes in the first year of offering GCSE music. We currently have 2 GCSE Music classes and 1 Music Technology class in year 10 and music is a popular subject amongst students.
You will lead the vision for and delivery of the Music curriculum in line with the department development plan and foster a love of Music in all pupils, regardless of their skills or experience, leading by example and promoting excellence in teaching and learning.
You will be responsible for the maintenance of schemes of work from Year 7 to Year 11, ensuring progress and continuity between key stages and monitor pupils’ work and the classroom practice of those in the department to ensure that high standards are maintained and that the delivery of schemes of work is consistent.
You will also arrange various enrichment activities for pupils and oversee the instrumental lessons and scholarship programme.

We also have a theatre, radio room and brand new performance hall with tiered seating (perfect for concerts). You will be part of a Music department that celebrates the musical ability of all pupils and provides opportunities for all to experience a range of instruments. This includes our Orchestral instrument scheme where all year 7's have the chance to opt to learn an orchestral instrument for free for a term. Our teaching team will consist of 3 other teachers who are part of the senior leadership team and a team of 9 Peripatetic teachers so you will be well supported in the role. We have regular opportunities to perform large-scale productions and have regular performances in school as well as being involved in national events such as Voice in a Million at the Ovo Stadium Wembley. The school does two productions a year; the most recent productions being ‘Les Miserables: school edition’, 'Seussical the Musical' and ‘Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat’. We also host a community orchestra for all young people in Andover which we would love you to oversee.
