  • Overview
  • As a key part of our Cyber Security Leadership team, you'll help define Element Materials Technology's cyber security strategy, transformation roadmap, and governance framework. You will lead a global team of security engineering experts, providing a supportive environment that attracts and retains talent.
  • This role is not primarily hands-on however, the Head of Cyber Engineering is expected to remain technically engaged and may occasionally contribute directly during important initiatives, solving complex problems, or high-severity security incidents.
  • A successful candidate will have an established background as a security engineering leader responsible for securing complex, global environments and developing security solutions at scale, with deep experience across application, cloud, and infrastructure domains.

  • Responsibilities
  • Hiring, developing, mentoring, and managing security engineers and the day-to-day activities of the team
  • Leading the deployment of security tools and platforms to protect valuable assets across the business, including cloud environments
  • Leading the development of secure by design technical solutions to mitigate vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks
  • Promoting a positive cyber security culture across the organisation
  • Acting as a key contributor to the security strategy, defining the long-term cyber security vision in alignment with business objectives
  • Managing delivery of the cyber engineering elements of the security strategy
  • Acting as a trusted advisor, providing security leadership and guidance to business units, projects, and third parties, ensuring security is embedded early in systems and product design
  • Providing a clear organisation of security mechanisms and prioritising their deployment in line with technology direction and risk
  • Identifying efficient and cost effective security solutions driven by the Technology Framework, Roadmap, and business change
  • Evaluating and recommending standard security products and technologies
  • Designing and documenting reusable security components where bespoke solutions are required
  • Working closely with Group IT infrastructure and development teams to support implementation
  • Identifying current and future capability gaps, producing business cases to fund required technologies and processes
  • Guiding the effective implementation of enterprise wide security technologies and processes funded through investment
  • Leading additional project-based security transformation initiatives as required, supported by contingent resources where appropriate
  • Providing hands-on technical leadership during critical security incidents, complex engineering challenges, or high priority transformation initiatives
  • Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Significant industry experience in cybersecurity or security engineering (typically 10+ years), with a strong hands-on technical foundation and the ability to remain technically engaged when required
  • Demonstrated progression from hands-on security engineering roles into senior technical leadership positions
  • Experience operating in complex, global technology environments
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong understanding of threat models and frameworks (e.g. Cyber Kill Chain, MITRE ATT&CK, Diamond Model) and how they inform threat intelligence and control design
  • Strong understanding of security technologies across network, endpoint, application, identity, and cloud domains (e.g. FW/IPS/IDS, EDR/MDR, IAM, SIEM/SOAR, DAST/SAST)
  • Background in offensive security, penetration testing, or threat-led security engineering, with the ability to apply attacker tradecraft to defensive design and prioritisation
  • Significant experience designing and implementing security solutions in cloud-first and hybrid environments
  • Experience leading or managing security engineering teams, including roadmap definition and delivery of complex security platforms
  • Experience with threat modelling, risk identification techniques, and risk management
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering large, cross-functional projects with evolving requirements
  • Strong technical depth combined with business acumen, with the ability to present complex security concepts for diverse audiences
